CHN3021: Final Oral Exam

Daytime classes: Monday 12/10 of Week #15.

Evening classes: Tuesday 12/11 of Week #15.

Your final oral exam is as follows:

I. First, 2 or 3 students perform a skit.

1) Due to the time limit, please finish your skit within 2 min. - 3 min.

2) Your short skit could be on any appropriate and interesting topc, not necessarily those topics covered in your textbook.

3) Please evenly distribute the workload among the students.

4) Though performing as a group, students will be individually graded based on such criteria as use of more complex vocab and patterns, accuracy, fluency, and the "drama" factor.

II. After the skit, each student have a one-on-one interview with an instructor.

Though there're 5 groups of questions on the sheet, you are only required to answer 1 group of questions, which the instructor will randomly pick.

Please find your skit partner(s) asap and allow youselves enough time for preparation.

Many of the 50,000 Chinese characters in use today can be traced back to ancient, inscribed oracle bones and bronzes. Drawing on archeological finds of recent decades, Lindqvist, a Swedish scholar who studied Chinese writing in Beijing, tells the fascinating stories behind the meaning and evolution of scores of Chinese characters. She notes that the original character for "hand" may well have been a picture of a hand with five fingers; neolithic jars were prototypes for the character for "wine"; the character for "speak or word" has a basic meaning, "large flute." Other characters relate to everyday life (houses, carts, clothes) or to the countryside, plants and animals.
